In this case, a woman with leukemia managed to borrow enough to meet a demand for a $45,000 cash pre-payment; then was refused treatment at time of admitting until she came up with $60,000 more.
She had insurance. You read that right. She had insurance. It just didn't guarantee enough payment to earn treatment for the patient, who was fighting for her life.
