Tax Evader: Rev. Al Sharpton Owes $1.5 Million in Back Taxes

Apparently the Rev. Al Sharpton hasn't yet heard the part that says "..render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's." Earlier, Sharpton, a firm Barack Obama supporter, threatened lawsuits over the Democratic party's handling of Michigan and Florida delegates. The question now is; who'll pay for those court costs?

This isn't the first time Sharpton has been in trouble over his finances. His non-profit, National Action Network, has previously been under federal investigation for handling of funds, including donated monies.

One of Sharpton's staffers complained because federal agents came to her home and knocked on her door, asking to speak to her. In the tax evasion scandal, Sharpton is following his usual line: he's being picked on because he's an activist.

Florida Taser-Like Stun Gun Maker Faces Federal Charges in High-Powered Taser Shoot-Out

A competitor to the now-notorious Taser Brand of electrical stun gun now faces a federal lawsuit for what the Security and Exchange Commission is calling "misrepresentation" that led to inflated stock prices on the NASDAQ exchange. It's not the first go-round in court for Stinger Systems of Tampa, Fl, either.

In 2004 their competitor TASER® International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR), filed a lawsuit United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina against Stinger Systems, Inc. . TASR 's press released alleged that "Stinger Systems has engaged in a pattern of false advertising and unlawful patent marking in violation of federal law."

Stinger, however, hasn't been shy about their competing claims. Among them:

"Stinger Systems is dedicated to offering the world's most state of the art stun technologies. Stinger's flagship product, the S-200 electronic immobilization device, is revolutionizing the industry bringing an all new stun wave form to the market. Packed with great take down power, the S-200's technology still allows for less current per pulse to enter the body than its competitors. In addition to incredible wave form circuitry, the S-200 is packed with revolutionary features like a cartridge eject system, off the shelf batteries, and a covered recessed cartridge.

Stinger Systems believes that its competition does not want to compete by comparing features on a head-to-head basis, as is evidenced by its competitor using old studies comparing its weapon to a previous model S-200 that is no longer in production. Fear of competition based on a product's merits should assist the law enforcement community to easily decide which company has a superior EID and technology."

But will those subdued by stun guns care which brand is used?

Estimates of those affected have ranged up to four million. As if the shutdown of nuclear reactor power stations for "safety" reasons weren't enough, many regions of Florida are also under a tornado watch.

Fl Sex Offender Closes Pet Store, But Opens New Issues

This is one of the creepier stories dealing with sex offenders, who are often prohibited from being near places likely to have large populations of children: schools, play parks, etc. This Plant City, FL convicted sex offender opened up a pet store; now new legislation may be created.

Also noted: he's been accused of animal cruelty. This is a surprise? Abuse of animals and children, of varying types, usually go together. Why anyone would take their dog to a known abuser of any kind to be groomed is beyond the Peanut crew.

Twister Slashes Through Central Florida

Update: So far, no injuries have been reported, although almost two dozen homes were totally destroyed and at least three dozen more damaged. People launched a door to door search overnight to check on residents.

Power is out in sections of three counties. Shelters are opening for those who lost their homes or had them too damaged to live in. In Eustis, a small town, some looting has been reported.

I lived in Florida for many years. Eustis, Florida is slightly northwest of Orlando, a popular tourist destination. It's not far from Disney World, Epcot, and Universal Studios.

The weather patterns have definitely changed. Although I've ridden out many hurricanes and tropical storms, I truly can't recall a tornado. Recently, Florida has been beset with a number of tornadoes every year.

And, like the famed U.S. Tornado Alley, that twister-prone area that spreads across several states, there now seems to be a developing "Tornado Strip" within the Central Florida area.

Severe weather, including a possible tornado, damaged about 50 homes, shearing the entire second story off one home, authorities said Friday.

Radar indicated a tornado spun off from a storm system that crossed through central Florida before spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, touching down late Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Giuliani FL event aide quits over sex, theft charges

Putting together a campaign, even on a local level, is hard work and requires many volunteers. Putting on a national-level campaign is leaving many presidential candidates at risk. Because volunteers are just that, organizers are often left accepting a pig in a poke, as the old saying goes.

This time, it's Rudy Giuliani's Florida race that winds up squealing.

n organizer for a Rudy Giuliani presidential event plans to step down amid revelations of his arrests for allegedly extorting an FSU student in a sex case and his conviction for dealing in stolen state computers.

Barry S. Edwards, 45, told The Miami Herald that the charges against him were ''old news'' --- and were 'unfounded' in the student sex case -- but he nevertheless thought it would be best to withdraw from the Pinellas County Republican Party fundraiser because ``I'm not relevant and I shouldn't be the story.''
